The La Grange Police Explorer Program was founded in 2004 through an association with the Exploring Division of the Boy Scouts of America and was chartered as Law Enforcement Exploring Post #304.

Recently, we have reorganized as a
Police Cadet Program, with many of the same goals in mind.
The program was designed to allow qualified individuals the opportunity to affiliate themselves with a law enforcement agency prior to reaching the eligible age for appointment as Police Officers.  The program is designed to attract young adults of outstanding ability and:

  • Provide law enforcement related training, competitions, service, practical and recreational experience

  • Promote character development, physical fitness and good citizenship

  • Make effective use of their services in a supplementary police capacity

  • Encourage interest for a career in law enforcement

After completing training, Cadet's will have the opportunity to participate in a "Ride-along" program as well as working several details throughout the year. Those details are designed to have the Cadet's work with "At Risk" youth as well as raise funding for their own program.

Explorer's may also be called upon to assist outside communities in special events.

Currently the program is designed to work, on a voluntary basis, with young adults between the ages of 14-19.  Potential applicants are required to complete an application, pass a background investigation and oral interview.

Applications are being accepted for the La Grange Police CADET PROGRAM. We are seeking motivated, energetic young adults of good morale character between the ages of 14 to 19 to join the program.

The program is designed to provide young adults with some of the following:

  • Monthly training related to law enforcement
  • Opportunities to work with the police and the Community on various projects
  • Development and promotion of character development and good citizenship
  • To teach good work ethics and appropriate social skills

Those interested should pick up an application at the La Grange Police Department after October 25, 2006.  Completed applications should be returned to the Police Department.  An orientation session is then scheduled for November 15, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. in the La Grange Village Hall, 53 S. La Grange Rd, 3rd floor Auditorium.

So if law enforcement interests you, and you have been considering law enforcement as a possible career, we encourage you to join the program.  All inquiries should be directed to one of the following department members at (708) 579-2333:
